Acupuncture can help to cure wide varieties of illnesses and ailments. However, it takes more than a single visit to start on the road to wellness and overall good health. There are three major phases of care that are recommended for you to proceed through to not only alleviate your current symptoms but also to continue to promote your general well-being in life.

The first phase is relief care, during which you actively suffer from obvious symptoms and signs of ill health. During this phase, your visits are recommended to be more frequent in order to promote a faster recovery.

The second phase is corrective care. As your obvious signs and symptoms disappear and your health improves, your visits become less frequent, and you generally feel healthier in all your life activities.

The final phase is for maintenance and wellness care. This step is very important to preserve all the progress you have made toward health and wellness. During this phase, acupuncture visits are less frequent but form a part of a health regimen combined with regular exercises, a healthy diet, and other good habits, to keep you feeling at your best.

The Major Steps of Care

  • Relief care: Frequent acupuncture visits to promote quick recovery from obvious signs of poor health
  • Corrective care: Less frequent visits as symptoms of ill health begin to disappear, and you start to feel better
  • Maintenance and wellness care: Regular "tune-ups" to maintain good health and keep you active and feeling great
Acupuncturist's diagnosis

What Is the Acupuncturist's Diagnosis?

An acupuncturist’s diagnosis is determined in part using methods similar to other health care practitioners: asking patients for a thorough history of their health and chief complaints, performing a physical exam, and ordering laboratory tests, X-rays, and MRIs, if necessary.

However, the acupuncturist also has unique diagnostic techniques, such as taking the patient’s pulse on both wrists and observing the tongue complexion and other signs. The three pulses felt on each wrist correspond to the major body organs and functions, just like an M.D. using a stethoscope to find out what’s wrong in your body.
